Talking about an amazing Co-Founder relationship of what would become one of the Gambia’s largest organizations in history.
Today, Afrinity Production draw attention to Bakary Sonko a 24 year old passionate Peace builder. He is the Co-Founder and National Programmes Coordinator of Peace Hub The Gambia.
Knowing that the social impact an organization could potentially have is more important to a Co-Founder than the organization itself. Bakary set out to found the Peace Hub The Gambia with his partner and currently having no less than a thousand plus Facebook flowers.
He holds a diploma and advanced diploma in policy analysis, peace and conflict, a
higher teachers certificate and currently, Bakary is in his third year at the university of The Gambia pursing development studies.

Why is it so important to find a cause you love and volunteer your time?
Afrinity Production draw cognizance to Sura Sumareh, a 25 year old Fatoto born who schooled at the furthest high school in the Gambia and that is Fatoto High School. He studied at the University of The Gambia for 2 years in getting his degree in Geography.
He is also the finance and operations coordinator for Kantora Action for green, a registered environmental nonprofit organization in both Gambia and the US.
Sura got his Higher Teacher’s Certificate at the Gambia college and is currently studying Finance and International Economics at Portland State University in USA. He also get an associates of Science in Business (Finance) from Portland Community College.
He believe that helping his community is an opportunity for him to grow as a person, to better understand how he fit into the world around him. “Without volunteers, many of the services and events we enjoy in our communities would not be so readily available. Spending time helping out at a local market or community cleaning activities or providing an important service to less fortunate students is something that unite the community and bridge some of the social, economic and political gaps”, Sura said with interest at heart.
After graduating from Gambia college, Sura requested to be posted to his home village Fatoto where he taught for Three years before leaving for the University. While he was at Fatoto, he was very active in coordinating student clubs and offering free extra classes for everyone who was interested.
Some friends and Sura, started the Competitive college club which was fully sponsored by the US Embassy Banjul. He volunteered as a Peace Corp Counterpart for Peace Corp Gambia volunteers and this became his best experience in the whole of his career to date.
As a very curious learner, he was able to grasp lots of valuable international knowledge from the many peace Corp volunteers he worked with and of course he made very great friends as well.
Volunteering for Peace Corp, leading school clubs and being engaged in other community projects landed him an opportunity to Serve as The team leader for Team Gambia at the Pan African Youth Leadership Program in Washington DC, Atlanta Georgia and Portland Oregon. This doesn’t come easy, he had to compete with many applicants for this very competitive conference. After the conference, he had to go back to Gambia to implement a project as a give back to his community, which he successfully did.
While in the US for the Conference, he met this super amazing family who really liked him and offered to give him a full scholarship (200%) to sponsor his education in the US. As we interview him, he have a 200% scholarship. “Grateful for my American Family”, he said.
One thing Sura can’t do without is food. “I love to eat and I’m a very good cook. My best hiding place in the house is the kitchen. Cooking is a huge passion for me”, he emphasized.
He was very much inspired and still inspired by his very hardworking Late mom. “My mom showed me what it means to stay strong on your goals and get that success no matter what it takes”, he explained briefly.
In five years, he sees himself working for the World Bank or for some huge development projects with the United Nations.

Updates on the death of Marie Mendy
There has been alot of theories surrounding the death of a 24 year old Marie Mendy in Busumbala and here is the truth of what really happened.
The scene happened in the neighborhood of our source, which is 50 meters away from his home. The witness knows both Marie and Gomez.
When the scene happened, the witness and other few people were the first on the scene, even before any adult family members of the victim.
Most of the stories online are been heard from a third party who actually were not there and they seem far from the fact. The rumors going around that the alleged killer and rapist of Marie did not have any blood stain on his hand or cloth is nothing close to the truth.
Our reliable source assured us that, there were blood stains on Gomez, on the side of his Jean, shirt and hands when the fire and rescue service took him out from the well “that I can assure you”, he said.
“I’m not saying he did it, because the murder weapon and mutilated part was not found, and the police suggested that it might be in the well, and that they will bring someone to check inside which they never did”, he briefly explained.
Initially what was found was a hammer around the death body, so the first People there even thought he used the hammer to kill Marie, but later discovered that he used the hammer to open the manhole where his phone was found.
Marie’s compound is having two very wild dogs, no stranger will dare to enter the compound. So the fact that there might be a third person involved, is seen to be calling for a thorough investigation.
According to sources, Gomez sent all the kids out on different errands and literally closed the door from inside. The one who found Marie’s death body was his little brother who is said to be around 9 to 10 years old, he was the one who alerted the neighbors about the incident.
Our doubts are just two!!
Why is the police delaying on checking the well?
Could all the missing evidence be in the well?

Sierra Leone’s Tourism Minister Participates in international Tourism and investment Conference
Sierra Leone’s Tourism Minister Participates in International Tourism and Investment Conference
7th April, 2021.
Sierra Leone’s Minister of Tourism and Cultural Affairs, Dr. Memunatu Pratt has joined international decision makers, tourism leaders and investors in this year’s virtual summit of International Tourism and Investment Conference. The theme for 2021 is: Invest, Rebuild and Restart the African Travel and Tourism Sector.
The two-day virtual summit which is the aftermath of the restraining effects of the worldwide vaccination campaigns against COVID-19 aimed at uniting the broad spectrum of stakeholders of African and global tourism industries in order to tackle the key challenges that are cropping up in global tourism. There was special focus on investment opportunities in the African continent.
Giving her contribution, Dr. Memunatu Pratt pointed out that because of the experience Sierra Leone gained during the Ebola, the country has been able to contain the COVID pandemic and that Sierra Leone was the last country in West Africa to register a positive case of the corona virus. She stated that the government was able to support the tourism sector by providing safety net of three months salary to a number of hotels. She mentioned that the Government of Sierra Leone was taking COVID restrictions very seriously, noting that the Ministry is doing a number of reforms that have to do with hospitality standards.
She maintained that in the midst of COVID, the Tourism Ministry has been able to increase its domestic tourism revenues and that people were now visiting tourist sites more than ever before, with particular reference to the Tobanda Beach in the South which has just been commissioned by the President of Sierra Leone, HE Julius Maada Bio.
She said that a lot of work needs to be done at the African Union (AU) and ECOWAS Level to bring tourism to the forefront, while maintaining that there are a lot of barriers that are preventing regional tourism, connectivity and coordination. She admonished that such barriers call for an urgent address.
