SPORTI experienced hell with Messi at PSG – Neymar

Al-Hilal forward Neymar has claimed that he experienced “hell” alongside Lionel Messi at Paris Saint-Germain.

Neymar admits that the two of them failed to “make history” in France.

Both players left PSG this summer, with Messi signing for Inter Miami as a free agent.

Neymar joined Al-Hilal after six years in Ligue 1.

He told Globo: “I was very happy for the year he had, but at the same time very sad because he lived on both sides of the coin, he went to heaven with the Argentina team, won everything in recent years, and with Paris, he lived hell.

“We lived through hell, both he and I. We get upset because we’re not there for nothing, we’re there to do our best, be champions, try to make history. That’s why we started playing together again; we came together there so we could make history. Unfortunately, we didn’t make it.”

FG to establish solid minerals corporation, targets 50% contribution to GDP

Dele Alake, minister of solid minerals, says the federal government will soon establish the Nigerian solid minerals corporation.

Alake said the corporation will be similar to the Nigerian National Petroleum Company (NNPC) Limited.

Addressing a press conference in Abuja on Sunday, Alake said the government is ready to take the “bull by the horns” to “reap the trillion dollars worth of minerals under the ground” across the country.

“Mining is big business. Nigeria must assert its presence in this environment by replicating its strategic positioning in the petroleum sector by setting up a corporate body that plays in this field,” the minister said.

“Consequently, the ministry shall work towards the incorporation of the Nigerian Solid Minerals Corporation.

“This is a corporate body that will have subsidiaries doing business in the seven priority areas that require immediate intervention and focus: gold, coal, limestone, bitumen, lead, iron-ore and baryte.

“Existing enterprises such as the National Iron-Ore Company, and ongoing arrangements, such as the Bitumen Concessioning Programme, will be reviewed to fit into this new system.

“The proposed corporation will seek and secure partnership investment agreements with big multinational companies worldwide to leverage the attractive investment-friendly regime operating in the country to secure massive foreign direct investment for the mining sector.

“The positioning of the national corporation as a guarantor and protector of the partnership agreements is expected to assure partners of our seriousness and fidelity.

“Similarly, the solid minerals corporation will provide robust support for Nigerian businessmen seeking funding abroad and help to authenticate their investment proposals to speed up the commitment of their partners to invest.”

“Domestically, the solid minerals corporation will engage the Nigerian financial system, which has demonstrated palpable reluctance to support mineral prospecting and mining because of the long-term gestation of value generation by developing a Fund to facilitate investments in mining at interest rates that will be mutually agreed.

Alake said his ministry seeks to add 50 percent to the country’s gross domestic product (GDP) from solid minerals.

“The ministry will be introducing a security tax force and mines police that will help the country combat illegal mining and smuggling,” he said.

“For the last time, let me declare that the ministry is giving such persons 30 days grace to join a miners’ co-operative or find another vocation to do,” he said.

“On the expiration of the period, the full weight of the law will fall on anyone seen on a mining site without a determinable status.

“This message will be interpreted into Nigerian languages and broadcast on the radio to ensure no one is ignorant of this directive.”

“Youth are the Leaders of the Present and Future” – First Lady Dr. Fatima Maada Bio tell Namibia

The First Lady of the Republic of Sierra Leone, Her Excellency Dr. Fatima Maada Bio, has informed young people in Namibia that they should see themselves as leaders of today and not tomorrow so she encouraged them to take advantage of the opportunities they have now to enhance their leadership skills.
First Lady Dr. Maada Bio was delivering the Keynote Address at the official launch of the BeFree Youth Campus in Windhoek, Namibia on Friday 1st September 2023.
First Lady Dr. Maada Bio encouraged the young people to prepare themselves to break free from constraints that hold them back and urged them to embrace a commitment to excel in all areas of life.
She said: “No matter what happens, you must not involve in alcohol or substance abuse. You need to free yourselves from all forms of abuses in order for you to have a better life”.
First Lady Maada Bio further encouraged the young people to participate in opportunities that would prepare them for leadership positions.
Referencing herself and other First Ladies who were as well present at the prestigious event, the Sierra Leone First Lady said: “We are here because we got married to men who then became Presidents but when young girls come to me and say, ‘First Lady, I just want to be just like you; I want to become a First Lady’, I respond to them by telling them, ‘No, you must want to be the President!’ because I want the young Girls to know they can also become the Head of State”.
First Lady Maada Bio said it was important to build on the foundation of Democracy by helping to amplify voices that would otherwise go unheard “particularly those of women and girls, people living on the margins of society or those vulnerable to abuse”. She said we all should ensure everybody can fully “exercise their right to disagree and dissent.”
Continuing to address the gathering, First Lady Maada Bio commended the First Lady of Namibia for such a laudable idea as the BeFree Youths Initiative. She appealed to Namibia’s youth to make use of such a big platform to develop their talents and realise their dreams.
The Sierra Leone First Lady reminded the youthful audience that they are the keepers and builders of not only their lives but also the future of the world.
First Lady Fatima Maada Bio urged Namibia to protect the numerous legacies already established by the First Lady of Namibia and whilst expressing admiration for the legacies of Namibia’s First Lady, the Sierra Leone First Lady also promised to replicate some of those same ideas for Sierra Leone, tailored in different forms but with the same concepts.
Earlier, whilst giving a background of the youths campus, Her Excellency the First Lady of Namibia Madam Monica Geingos, in her capacity as the Founder and Chairperson of “One Economy Foundation”, explained that the Youth Campus was established in order to address a cluster of issues that Namibian Youth are faced with.
First Lady Monica, who is a Lawyer by profession, explained of how the Youth Campus aims to serve young people aged between 13 to 30 years by providing psychosocial support and guidance on the legal and criminal justice systems especially regarding sexual and gender-based violence.
The campus will also be providing academic support, entrepreneurial skills, programming and skills development amongst many other services to young Namibians.
First Lady Monica Geingos revealed that the Campus will provide a STEM Lab that will help youth. She also said special services will be provided for youths who had been involved in Sexual and Gender Based Violence.
First Lady Monica Geingos concluded that the campus will help provide a safe and non-judgmental space for youth to facilitate their development and also aid their education on sexual and reproductive health.
Statements of Appreciations were made by other prominent international dignitaries including a special commendation delivered by Her Excellency Mrs. Ana Dias Lourenco, the First Lady of the Republic of Angola who also graced the auspicious event.
The day’s celebration in Nambia ended on a very uplifting note.

Awoniyi eyes Chelsea scalp

Nigerian striker Taiwo Awoniyi will be eyeing another goal when Nottingham Forest face Chelsea on Saturday (today) at Stamford Bridge.

After scoring in seven consecutive matches to break the 28-year scoring record for the Tricky Trees and also becoming the third African player (joint-level with Mohamed Salah and Emmanuel Adebayor) to score in seven successive PL games, the match against Chelsea presents an opportunity for him to score in an eighth straight match.

The Blues will be even more wary of the big Super Eagles striker thanks to his two-goal man-of-the-match performance against them the last time they met last season.

After seven straight wins in all competitions against Forest, Chelsea failed to beat them in two meetings upon their return to the Premier League after more than two decades.

Draws at the City Ground and at Stamford Bridge in their encounters last season makes this game a redemption game for the Blues.

Olamide, Odumodublvck, Blaqbonez emerge most streamed artistes on Spotify

A global online streaming platform, Spotify, says Olamide, Odumodublvck, Blaqbonez, Zlatan and Ice Prince are the most streamed Nigerian hip-hop artistes on its platform.

Spotify’s Artiste and Label Partnerships Manager for West Africa, Victor Okpala, disclosed this in a statement on Friday.

According to Okpala, Hip Hop has achieved global prominence and this triumph extends to Nigeria where it has profoundly influenced the evolution of afrobeats.

He said it was not surprising that Nigeria occupies a significant position within Africa’s Hip-hop listenership landscape, securing the second spot after South Africa.

He noted that this position underscored the genre’s popularity within the country and reflected the widespread impact of Nigerian Hip hop on the African music scene.

“The spotlight falls on Olamide, Odumodublvck, Blaqbonez, Zlatan and Ice Prince as the most streamed within the realm of Nigerian Hip hop.

“Nigeria’s patriotism in music is evident as most streamed Hip hop artistes are Nigerians, unlike regions such as Kenya and South Africa where international hit-man, Drake, leads.

“Hip hop is one of the most popular music genres in the world and it continues to have an input in newer genres and music movements springing up in Nigeria and around the world.

“Its ability to evolve and stay relevant is a testament to its power as a form of artistic expression that resonates with listeners worldwide,” he said.

Okpala said according to Spotify’s data, Nigerian Gen Z individuals aged between 18 and 24 constituted a sizable segment of Hip hop listeners, accounting for 55 per cent of the total streams.

He said this is followed by listeners aged 25 to 29, contributing 19 per cent of the streams. According to him, the age brackets of 0 to 17 and 30 to 34 both hold a nine per cent share.

He said from a gender perspective, Nigerian Hip hop music predominantly resonates with males, commanding a substantial 75 per cent of the recorded streams, while females account for 24 per cent.

“Nigerian Hip hop gained popularity in the 1990s with artistes such as Modenine, Naeto C, Bouqui, Ruggedman, Gino, Eedris Abdulkareem, eLDee, Sasha P, Ikechukwu and a whole lot more.

“These artistes pioneered the sounds and culture of Hip hop that have influenced Nigerian tracks and has grown to gain substantial traction within the continent.

“It is interesting to see how Nigerian listeners who are Hip hop enthusiasts are contributing to the elevation of the Hip hop genre and the sounds that tapped influences from it.

“The Gen Z demographic is playing a significant role in this trend,” he said.

According to Okpala, Hip hop has continued to thrive in the streaming era as a new crop of rappers are creating rap music that appeals to Gen Z consumers.

He said the accessibility of streaming platforms like Spotify had enabled Gen Z to explore and embrace music from around the world, with Nigerian hip-hop resonating strongly due to its energetic, relatable lyrics, and cultural authenticity.
